The Birthing Tree

We're branching out to visit one of the oldest and largest tourist attractions in the state.

Hi Friends Welcome to the Wild Side, I’m Steve Hall…

Sometimes life begins with an outdoor adventure…especially if you believe the tales of babies born under the protection of a mighty white oak tree in McMinnville, Tennessee.

It’s called The Birthing Tree and local folklore tells of a time when Native Americans on the Trail of Tears stopped to rest beneath its branches… and where settlers would stay for long periods of time… camped under the canopy for shelter.

What we know for sure is that the massive hard wood is one of the oldest and largest trees in the state… and has become a tourist attraction.

The Birthing Tree was entered on the Tennessee Landmark and Historic Tree Register in the year 2000 as a Landmark Tree.
