TOYS…Tennessee Outdoors Youth Summit

Hunting, trapping, turkey-calling, marksmanship, camping and archery are among a list of skills necessary for those who love the outdoors! These are also activities taught at the Tennessee Outdoors Youth Summit.

If you had to make a list of skills essential to outdoors lovers, what would be on it? Most likely you’d put down camping and hunting..which includes of course things like marksmanship, turkey calling, antler scoring…archery, wilderness survival, rock climbing, fishing, boat driving, wood working. Now that’s quite a list! But it’s only a few of the activities taught at the Tennessee Outdoors Youth Summit or TOYS. This weeklong camp, hosted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency in cooperation with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation, is a way to teach the next generation about the exciting world of outdoor recreation. Wild Side Guide Eve Annunziato joined the kids for a day of outdoor adventure and learning.

Applications for TOYS can be downloaded from www.tnwildlife.org or www.twrf.net. For questions or additional information, contact Jereme Odom at 615.781.6500, extension 2102, or email, Jereme.Odom@tn.gov. For some qualifying students, there are even scholarships available to help cover the cost. Not only is it a great week of outdoor fun, but for young people considering a career in the natural resources, it’s an opporunity to experience and learn about activities they’ll encounter on the job.
