Summer Solstice at Old Stone Fort

The Summer Solstice and Native American history combine for a unique event at Old Stone Fort State Park.

A natural event that brings 20-thousand visitors to Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England every year is also celebrated at Old Stone Fort State Park Archaeological Park in Manchester, Tennessee. But, the alignment of the summer solstice with this prehistoric Native American site wasn’t discovered until the 1990’s. So its ancient significance hasn’t quite caught on yet.  Archeologists and rangers are hoping that will change.  Wild Side Guide Ezekiel Nole Hall gives us an inside look at the preparation and the celebration of the summer solstice, which includes spectacular scenery and the hard work of volunteers in the Tennessee Promise college program.
