National Trails Day

The American Hiking Society launched Trails Day to encourage families to discover and celebrate America’s beautiful and inspiring nature trails. It's also a day when volunteers gather to give back to the places they love.

Since 1993, the first Saturday of every June is known as National Trails Day – a day officially chosen to celebrate our nation’s beautiful and expansive trail system. The American Hiking Society launched Trails Day to encourage families to discover and celebrate America’s beautiful and inspiring nature trails. It’s also a day when volunteers gather to give back to the trails they love. Wild Side Guide Eve Annunziato takes us to Radnor Lake State Park in Nashville for a trailside celebration.

With more than 200 thousand miles of trailways in our great country, there’s no excuse not to get out and experience some of them. Over 400 different projects took place on National Trials Day in 2012, helping maintain over 12 thousand miles of trail.
