Chickasaw Fish Rodeo

Young anglers know that the size of the fish you catch isn't as important as just getting to go fishing!

This is a story about fierce competition on the water…and a chance at really big fish! Well, half of the story happened that way… when Wild Side Guide Craig Owensby went to Chickasaw State Park,  just south of Jackson, for a young people’s fishing rodeo. While the action was actually pretty relaxed, the lake really did have some bragging size fish just waiting for the kids to catch them.

Even though none of the young anglers caught “the big one” this time, the more they fish, the better they’ll get. And those eight and nine-pound largemouth the lake is known for are still out there waiting for them. But to put it all in perspective, for kids that age catching a big fish isn’t as important as just getting to go fishing! For them, even a little brim is a trophy.

Visit the TWRA website to learn more about fishing in Tennessee. The TWRA manages 17 family fishing lakes across the state. With plenty of bank access and lots of fishing piers, these lakes offer a golden opportunity for families to spend the day together outdoors.
