Purple Martins at the Schermerhorn

A bird invasion reminiscent of an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

Hi Friends Welcome to the Wild Side I’m Steve HallA fascinating phenomenon appearing in downtown Nashville, first during the 2020 pandemic, and then again 12 months later, has left conservationists curious about the cause.

While thousands of federally protected Purple Martins attract tourists, as they descend on the trees and roof at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, no one seems to know the real reason they chose these particular trees to roost… or if this will become a long-tern annual affair.

Donors solicited by The Tennessee Wildlife Federation and The Nature Conservancy sent enough money to pay for the mess left behind.
