Norris Dam in east Tennessee was the first one completed in 1936. And the establishment of three demonstration parks became the nucleus for a statewide park system.

Water is one of the most powerful forces on earth… and that’s why dams were built to try and harness that power.

And the preservation of water and lands for recreation was a big bonus along the way.

The park’s museum tells a fascinating story about the history of the dam and its impact on the community, A lot of people were forced to sell their property as a consequence… but a lot of people also found work… all part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal during the depression.
