Biking the Cedar Glades

A personal presentation of native plants during a pandemic as we socially distance and bike along the Cedar Glades

Hi friends… welcome to the Wild Side…

In the midst of a pandemic… our need for outdoor experiences becomes paramount.

Some people are desperate for physical challenge… others just want to stop and smell the wildflowers. But social distancing and other safety measures are important. So a scientist with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation started looking for solutions. And since he specializes in botany… and also enjoys riding a bicycle… he decided to try and put the two together into one group adventure.

The bike and botany outing lasted just a few hours. That’s a lot for some of us… but not enough for others. That’s why Tennessee State Parks started the BRAT program several years ago… Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee. But in 2020… the event became a virtual one to avoid having a large group of people so close together in a pandemic. Maybe it will help us not to take things for granted in the future… when we peak back at the past.
