Trees in Trouble

Foresters are fighting an ongoing battle with invasive insects that are attacking Tennessee trees.

We depend on trees for life. They give us oxygen to breath… food to eat… and provide a place for wildlife to live.  Trees are a huge part of our economy…offering lumber to build our homes, our cities… and even the materials to make musical instruments. Most of the world’s drumsticks come from Tennessee trees.  But exotic bugs from foreign places are killing large numbers of the trees in our forests.  It’s so serious that the Tennessee Division of Forestry, the Nature Conservancy and Tennessee State Parks have teamed up to fight back.  For foresters, watching trees disappear from the landscape has become a dismal part of the job.
