Short Springs Wildflowers

Take a photographic safari to the Short Springs Natural Area to enjoy the many colors, shapes and sizes of spring wildflowers.

One tradition that is nature’s way of telling us we have survived another winter season of bleak landscapes and cold temperatures is spring ephemeral wildflowers. Those who take the time to seek them out find comfort by pausing to enjoy the many colors, shapes, and sizes of spring wildflowers. Wild Side Guide Ken Tucker and nature and fine art photograher Byron Jorjorian take us to Short Springs State Natural Area in Coffee County, Tennessee, to witness an unveiling of beauty unrivaled in the natural world.

Short Springs is just one of 82 natural areas across our state, most of which are open to the public. Besides the wildflowers, there are several spectacular waterfalls there, including Machine Falls…all within easy hiking distance. You can learn more about Short Springs at www.tennessee.gov/environment/na/natareas/shortspr/ and more about wildflowers at www.wild-flowers.com/.

This isn’t the first time Ken and Byron have teamed up to refocus our view of the world through the prism of a camera lens. You can see one of their collaborations, a story about a photo exhibit Bryon calls “Missing Nature,” here. Bryon has been capturing images of the natural world for over 30 years.
