So much of Tennessee’s history is wrapped up in war. In our Wild Side adventures, we’ve taken you to a British Fort and Civil War battlegrounds. But one of Tennese’s most famous heros went all the way to Europe to fight for his country in World War I. He was a true outdoorsman who lived and hunted in these hills near the Kentucky line. Here in the state park named for him… the life of Sgt. Alvin C. York is honored… and the history of World War I is remembered.
So much of our history is wrapped up in the stories of our own families… and the descendents of Sgt. York have remained connected with his legacy. His son Andrew was a park ranger here for many years… and his great-grandaughter Deborah is executive director of the Friends of Sgt. York Patriotic Foundation.
