Richland Creek Whitewater

Usually when we mention stormwater runoff, we’re talking about urban areas and the harm it does to our environment. But not all stormwater runoff is bad…it happens in nature all the time in places like Richland Creek. Located in the Laurel-Snow State Natural Area just north of Chattanooga, Richland Creek is most often a quiet stream that welcomes waders. But as Wild Side Guide Ken Tucker discovered, rain storms often transform this quiet stream into something more like a roaring river…and a paddlers’ paradise.
