Nature at Home: Water Conservation

The water we have on this planet is all we'll ever have...we can't make any more. That means it's a natural resource in need of protection.

When it comes to doing things right, a good place to start is at home. While we might not realize it, a lot of the things we do in our homes affects the natural world and the wild animals living in it. In this week’s Nature at Home, we learn a few tips for conserving…and protecting…one of our most precious natural resources…water. Some of the tips are pretty straightforward, like being sure to run your dishwasher or washing machine with full loads or turning the faucet off while you brush your teeth. Others you might not have thought about though…like putting a lid on when you boil water to make it boil faster and save water lost through steam.

We’d like to thank Tabitha Crawford, a Natural Resources Expert from Balfour Beatty for sharing some great tips for saving water inside our homes. Of course we didn’t have time to cover everything, so if you’re really ready to get down to water saving in your home, here are some websites with more great tips.
