Fish in a Barrel

Have you ever heard the phrase, "It's like catching fish in a barrel." Wild Side Guide Richard Simms, a real-life fishing guide, loves fishing below Chickamauga Dam, which he considers a very productive barrel.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s like catching fish in a barrel.” Tennessee anglers know that in the real world, it is NEVER that easy. But fishing tailwaters, the areas immediately below major dams, can be the next best thing. Wild Side Guide Richard Simms, who is also a real-life fishing guide, loves fishing below Chickamauga Dam, inside the city limits of Chattanooga. That’s where he took Wild Side Photojournalist Barry Cross and Barry’s dad Clyde to see what they could pull out of this very productive barrel.

At the end of the day Richard and his crew had caught nine different species of fish…not a bad day of fishing! If you’re interested in booking a trip with Richard, visit his website at http://www.sceniccityfishing.com/ or give him a call at 423-894-3684.

To learn more about fishing in Tennessee or check out the state fishing regulations, visit the TWRA website at www.tnwildlife.org. Remember that safety is a critical factor when fishing near any dam. Life jackets are required and fishermen should always pay close attention to other warnings and regulations.
